Credible American magazine Forbes advises its readers to plan a trip not to Paris, but to the capital of Ukraine — to Kiev.

“When it comes to historic European cities, destinations like Rome, Paris, Prague and Vienna come to mind. However, if you want to visit a city with great architecture, magnificent churches, bustling markets and charming cobblestone streets with significantly fewer tourists, you should consider Kyiv, Ukraine’s colorful capital. For contrast, last year 1.6 million people visited Kyiv, versus 83 million visitors in Paris. As a traveler less people means easily accessible landmarks, great transportation and dinners that are tasty but not exorbitant.”- Rana Good writes.

Also in her article the author tells where in Kiev it is better to stay for the night and what sights are worth visiting.

In particular, Rana Good recommends the luxurious 11 Mirrors hotel, located on Bogdan Khmelnytsky Street. “You will wake up to a panoramic view of the city, in particular St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral which is just a short walk away.

The friendly concierges will be able to guide you to other nearby landmarks such as the Golden Gate, National Museum of Natural Sciences or National Opera,” the author writes.

Forbes states that another great place to stay is Senator Maidan Hotel located close to St.Mikhailovsky Golden-Domed Monastery and the Michael Bulgakov Museum.

The author does not disregard the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra with its cathedrals, caves, catacombs and green hills. This place is considered the most sacred in Ukraine, the article says.

When it comes to Ukrainian cuisine, Rana Good recommends borscht and golubtsi. In addition, the author recommends paying attention to a lot of Georgian restaurants in Kiev and trying khinkali.

Also, the author writes that the guests of the city will definitely be impressed with exciting excursion beyond the capital — a trip to Chernobyl, which remains empty after the Chernobyl accident in 1986.

As for souvenirs, which can be brought from Kiev, the author advises to buy traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirts. In particular, fashionistas can pick up stylish embroidered items with modern design elements from the Ryabokon Factory brand.

“Kyiv might not be the top of most people’s European vacation list but with incredible sites, great dining options and awesome shopping, it really should be,” the author concludes.
